Seen any old coal mines recently?
On a recent walk in the Peak District I met a Regional Engineer for The Coal Authority. This government body has responsibility to locate and make safe any previously unknown mine workings in the UK, and the engineer I met asked for help from walkers in reporting any they come across.
So if you discover any old and unprotected mine workings, especially if they present a potential danger to the public in the form of un-capped shafts etc., please report them to the authority via their website (www.coal.gov.uk).
